The Cliff Lodge and Spa receives mixed reviews, with many guests praising its stunning location and ski-in/ski-out access. However, a significant number of reviewers express concerns about the hotel's outdated facilities, poor maintenance, inconsistent service, and confusing layout. Spa amenities are also frequently criticized for limited hours and overcrowding.
We stayed at The Cliff Lodge while attending Oktoberfest at Snowbird, and unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed with the experience, especially considering how much we paid. Overall, the hotel just felt very run down and not particularly clean. There was little to no sound proofing between rooms and there was a big gap under our door where we could easily hear word for word what people were saying in the hallway. The furniture in our room was noticeably beat up, the bathroom fan didn’t work, the showerhead was old and cheap, there was black tape covering lights in the rooms hallway, and even the clocks in the room weren’t set correctly. None of these things individually would have ruined our stay, but together they gave the impression that the property isn’t being maintained to the standard we expect. The layout was also incredibly confusing. Finding the restaurants was surprisingly difficult—we had to ask multiple employees for directions before we finally found where we were going. Once we got there, we actually had to walk back through the hotel to find the rest of our family because they had gotten lost trying to find it too. Better signage would make a huge difference. One of our biggest disappointments was that the spa pool, sauna, steam room, and other spa amenities closed at 8 PM. When you're spending the day out enjoying Oktoberfest and the mountain, coming back in the evening to relax in the pool or sauna is exactly when you want to use those amenities that you pay extra for. We weren't the only ones disappointed either; you could tell several guests were frustrated when everyone had to leave at 8. The other pool was already overcrowded, so that wasn't much of an alternative. I think we simply expected more from The Cliff Lodge based on its reputation and, especially, the price. I understand that staying at a resort like Snowbird comes at a premium, but when you're paying premium prices, you expect the property and amenities to reflect that. Instead, much of the experience felt like paying twice as much for fairly bare-minimum quality. We still enjoyed Oktoberfest and being up at Snowbird, but I don't think the hotel itself was worth what we paid. With some updating, better maintenance, improved signage, and later spa hours, the experience could have been significantly better.
The scenery around here is gorgeous however the resort fails to live up to a resort standard. I can look past the expensive very mid food as you really have no other choice for restaurant here. However, when a NY'er finds MOST of the staff rude and off putting then theres an issue. The staff at the Atrium were nice and Austin at Seventy One was a peach compared to the others it left a sour taste in my mouth. The pools were great and I enjoyed those, but when it comes down to hospitality, it is lacking.
I stayed at the Cliff Lodge with a friend as a staycation and there was a mouse in our room!! I understand that the building is in the mountains, but after telling the front desk about the mouse they sent facilities up to put mouse traps (non-humane ones) in the room and then told us to “call the front desk when the trap goes off”. It was a little shocking that we were not offered a new room and instead had to ask if that was even an option hours after being put on mouse duty. We came to the lodge to relax, not catch mice. Extremely disappointed with the service and how the situation was handled.
An honest Cliff Lodge review from a family that has been coming here for over 25 years. We have a time share here. This has always been a family affair where the cousins meet and have a great time while the adults chat. You know, happy family vibes but this wasn’t the case this time. Firstly, the pool was closed. We were not made aware before checking in. The person at reception just casually dropped that in when handing us the keys. Our dates had been chosen a year in advance. Which means we could have changed our dates had that been communicated to us properly. We had 15 kids aged 1-12 with no access to the usually amazing pool. The provided solution: we could use the pool at the Inn with a shuttle running there for up to 6 people. We had 15 kids not including adults so we decided to make the 15 minute walk over. The pool is about 1/5 the size of the cliff lodge pool. It was dirty and filled with bugs. Worst of all it was not accessible at all. So we had to do multiple stairs with strollers and all the kid things. If you needed wheelchair accessibility forget about it. We made do for the kids and tried to keep their spirits up. Now, let’s talk about the adult spa access that is part of our time share. We are always torn between making a booking or showing up with the white cards we’re given. We get told something different every time. We turn up. A small group of 4 and get a bunch of attitude from the young man at the counter. Making us feel terrible for not booking even though we called multiple times to book with no one answering the phone. He reluctantly lets us in but customer service is in the toilet. We get up there and the pool is packed. No where to sit and barely any room in the pool because once again the other pool is closed. This back and forth continues for the rest of the family across the 4 days we’re here. We try to alternate when we go to the spa because we’re not going to turn up in a massive group and we also have kids to watch. Each time a group goes (no more than 4) we get attitude. Except for one lovely guy. He’s an exception. Next, let’s talk about the front reception and the bookings section for Cliff Club members. No one wants to take any responsibility for everything that’s going down. They just keep saying it’s not their problem and to talk to the other. We admit defeat cos they just do not care. But then comes the day to checkout and well that’s what led to this review because we’re done. When we book some extra rooms to go along with our usual time share slot, we check out at 11am. But this time, considering the run around we got, we decided to call in the morning to request a late checkout of noon. Just an extra hour. Which they’ve offered before with no issue. Instead, the front desk attendant stated that we actually needed to vacate our rooms by 10am and it’s strict. We were then put on hold and then told that the middle room of the 3 could have a noon checkout, but the other two were still a hard 10am checkout. So instead of going for a nice breakfast, we rush to pack up everything and get us all into the middle room by 10am. Guess what? And then at 10am, the cleaners walk through the door of the middle room (the one that was supposedly extended to noon). They apologise and leave but clearly the front desk did not pass on that message. No blame on the cleaners, they’re doing their job. So now as I sit in the atrium writing this review, we feel absolutely deflated. Our kids and the adults included have had a terrible time and frankly none of us want to return to somewhere that holds so many memories. All this to say, work out your customer service and the connection between the hotel and the time share departments. No one took responsibility nor did they want to help in any way. We were merely an inconvenience that was brushed off constantly. Keep that in mind when visiting the lodge.
Great place to stay with your family has a direct access to tram to get up toe snowbird for skiing or snowboarding. Will surely come back another time. Friendly and helpful staff. The place is a bit of a maze for the first day. Must visit the seventyone has some great options. Spa is amazing wish had more time to relax at the spa.
While we have not yet had our stay at The Cliff Lodge, I wanted to shout out the incredible customer service we have received from Samantha. We were hoping for a different room set up so I had sent an email inquiring. Samantha went above and beyond to answer all of my questions, share details and wait list for our first choice. There was no delay in response, she was friendly and informative - things we don't see in customer service much any more. Thank you Samantha Morehouse for your incredible customer service and hats off to Snowbird for employing people like Samantha to represent them!
Great hotel and conference center! The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. The room also included a single-cup Keurig with coffee provided by the hotel. We stayed here for both a conference and a ski vacation, and the location was perfect for both. Overall, it was a very convenient and enjoyable place to stay.
BE AWARE! Stolen Skis - and no on on staff at The Cliff Lodge givesa darn. My skis were stollen from the resort, from the locker room and these morons could give two hoots. I walked into the security office. A young lady sat there, lounged back in her chair, on her cdll phone texting or something. After a minute or two of ignoring me I spoke up. She, in a frustrating tone, asked me what I needed. I explained that I put my skis in my locker the night before. When I came down in the morning they were gone. She acted like no other person, ever, has had this happen. So, 500 rooms, families, tons of people and skis and no one has ever lost or had their skis stolen? They were supposedly the lost and found. She never looked in any back room. In fact, no one did. It is insane. The ski shop sent me to the bell desk. The bell desk sent me to security. Security sent me to the bell desk. These people were useless and honestly seemed like they could care less that my $1,000 skis were missing. Lock up your skis if you go here. Although, personally, I recommend you do not stay here.
I am a huge fan of the Cliff Spa. I’ve had some great experiences there! I love the rooftop pool. In the winter, it’s so fun to sit in the hot tub and watch the skiers go down. Me and my friend group came up here to celebrate a belated Xmas here and it was so good. I also love the massages and the yoga class. They’ve done a really good job making this place beautiful. Would totally recommend going and am definitely going to be back!
In the wise words of another internet commentator "Snowbird is litty mctitties". The Cliff Lodge is an excellent place to stay during any season. I am partial to the fall colors and Oktoberfest time. The staff was extremely helpful and the rooms had beautiful views. You will not regret staying here for a spa get away or participating in the local activities. Sit back, sip your favorite drink, and enjoy the colors around you.
