The Marriott University Park receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising its convenient location, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms, particularly during renovations. However, recurring concerns include slow service, cleanliness issues (roaches and outdated facilities), double billing, and problems with room amenities such as air conditioning and bathroom fixtures. Recent reviews highlight inconsistent service quality and persistent operational challenges.
Location was convenient, rooms were decent, however we did find a roach in our room. We looked around, and only find the one. We were gifted a complimentary breakfast card for the inconvenience. Which we were ok with. However the next morning when trying to use the cards we were met with incredibly slow, and rather poor service for breakfast. I put an order in for a breakfast sandwich, around 9:20am and couldn't wait any longer after 9:50am. I then decided ill just pay for the sandwich and leave. I then had to get up and ask for the check twice until the third time I mentioned I needed to pay for the sandwich now or I'm leaving this very second. Im rather patient, but having to chase the servers down to pay after all of this was rather frustrating. Especially after the fact I never recieved the sandwich I paid for after a 45 minute wait. Not typical for a Marriott.
I stayed here while attending a local photography convention, and it turned out to be a great place to spend a few days. The hotel has a warm, comfortable feel from the moment you walk into the lobby, with plenty of natural light and inviting spaces to sit and catch up with friends between classes. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable, which was especially appreciated after spending long days on my feet. The staff was friendly without feeling scripted, and everything seemed to run smoothly. One thing I really enjoyed was the location. Being next to the University of Utah gives the area a relaxed atmosphere, with tree-lined streets that are perfect for an evening walk. There are several places to grab a bite nearby, and it's an easy drive to downtown if you want to explore a little more. As a photographer, I couldn't help but notice how nice the grounds looked in the early morning light. I'd gladly stay here again for another convention or just a weekend visit. The only real challenge was resisting the temptation to keep talking photography long after the classes were over. Apparently photographers don't know how to have a "quick" conversation!
The stay was great, the facility was clean and updated however the front counter staff has bad attitude. I booked through bookings.com and after I checked out nothing was said to me. I find out two days later on my credit card statement that the Marriott charged me as well for my stay. They double charged me because I've already paid through bookings.com. When I called to enquire, the front counter lady said she cannot help. She needs a manager to look into it and will call me back by the end of the day. That did not happen. I called for the second time a day later. Another lady said they have nothing on file and will have to start the enquiry again. She said to me "we have hundreds of people working here, so I don't know anything about it because it wasn't me last night that took your call". She blamed us for booking with the third party website and that they did not see the payment at the time of check out. At no point did Marriott staff apologize for the double charge, instead they just blamed us for booking the stay with bookings.com. This mistake is between bookings.com and Marriott. How is it my fault that your system has an error. At no time during check in or check out did you inform me that payment was not shown in your system. All you had in your system is that the stay was booked through bookings.com. Again, when I physically checkout, Marriott staff did not mention anything to me about not receiving payment. I was not given an invoice for the double charge!!! You used my credit card on file for the purpose of damage deposit without my permission. Finally I was told it will take up to 10 days to investigate and will see my refund for the double charge. Still no refund!!!! Still waiting!!!!! Will not come back here again, front counter staff rude and has bad attitude. Not helpful at all.
Eh... It was OKAY. Location is good -- great views, close proximity to a tram stop that takes you pretty much anywhere in the city. The hotel is clean, and staff is friendly. I didn't care much for the rooms. I don't like the sliding glass doors for the bathroom. Limits privacy unless you're staying alone. Also, no working exhaust fan in the bathroom, so any time you take a shower, it turns into a sauna. This actually violates Utah building code. Not sure how they get away with this. Also, no laundry on site, so either you go to a laundromat, or spend a crazy amount of money on their off-site laundry service, which picks up your bagged laundry at 8AM and returns it at 5PM.
GM is working through a remodel, so pardon the dust bunnies. We got to talk with her for a bit during breakfast. Very kind and sweet. The restaurant is ehhh.. the temporary location in on the bottom floor. Its clean, but dont expect alot from the. We preferred to eat out or Uber in. Which is not what we normally do at Marriott. But again, construction. The restaurant/bar should be open soon. Also the Starbucks closes there at 2pm. The views are gorgeous & the location is quiet. Our rooms were newly remodeled. Staff at the front desk were a treat! Maddie did awesome!
The hotel is very clean and the staff was extremely polite, professional, and helpful. The restaurant is decent for a quick bite if your tired and don't want to go out. The hotel was quiet and clean. The hotel itself is going through renovations and is dated. The rooms are dated with small bathroom and a noisy A/C unit.
This was very disappointing . Was promised free breakfast and it was not given. Marriott Bonvoy sucks. The people at the hotel did not help. Cancel your Bonvoy points and credit card and book on Expedia at least you get free breakfast for the price. Also they don’t have smart TV’s where you can add your own password for streaming services and terrible TV Options . Book a better chain than Marriot
I’m fairly certain this hotel room was powered directly by the fiery core of the earth. The second I walked in, it felt like I had accidentally checked into a luxury lava spa. I thought, “No problem, I’ll just crank the AC.” Oh, how naive I was. I set the thermostat to 60 degrees. Sixty. As in “I’d like to see my breath.” As in “Please create a light arctic tundra breeze.” The air conditioner responded by… doing absolutely nothing. Not a gentle hum. Not a whisper of cool air. If anything, it seemed personally offended and decided to make it warmer out of spite. All night long, I lay there marinating in my own regret like a rotisserie chicken at a gas station. The sheets stuck to me. The pillows radiated heat like they had been preheated. I considered building a raft out of complimentary towels and floating to safety. I checked the vents. I double-checked the thermostat. I even stood directly under the air vent hoping for a miracle gust of cold air. Nothing. It felt like I was trapped in a sauna designed by someone who thinks “comfortable” means “surface of the sun.” I didn’t sleep, I slow-roasted. If you enjoy sweating through all five stages of grief while questioning your life choices, this is the room for you. If you prefer oxygen that isn’t preheated to volcanic temperatures, you may want to bring your own industrial fan… or a snow machine. One star for the strong commitment to the theme of “eternal damnation.”
In town for a family medical procedure. Staff seemed decent, Starbucks was sub par... Probably not affiliated but my opinion on Starbucks is not great anyways. Bed was probably the worst mattress I've slept on. Felt the springs in my back. Was filthy, Dirty and kinda gross not impressed for the rate. Drywall and garbage on carpet. Sucker and trash under bed, Not well kept at all. I've seen super 8's in better condition. Restaurant was mediocre, burnt the flatbread pizza. Also how the hell do they charge for parking on top of room rate. I'm not one to complain normally just chock it up to my fault and choice. Would not recommend or ever return.
1 they changed our account 2x the final bill 2 this was a medical stay parking was free but the make you sign up and the build me also 3) the restaurant we went one night and my wife got sick when we got our food asked for a bill and boxs to take to the room. This took over 20 minutes. Food was cold by we got there. No apologies or offer to re heat. Will not use this place in the future.
